What are Fillings?

Fillings are used to fill cavities caused by decay

Cavities are holes in your tooth

NHS Fillings use a material known as Amalgam, which is a silver mixture of metals such as silver, tin and copper

Private Fillings use a material known as Composite, which is a tooth coloured mixture of resin and glass.

Do you need a Filling?

  • Sudden pain when chewing
  • Sensitivity to certain temperatures

What to Expect

You should expect the following during a filling:

  • Your dentist will remove any decayed or damaged parts of the tooth
  • Your dentist will prepare the tooth for the filling by cleaning and drying the area
  • Your dentist will fill the cavity or damage with filling material
  • Your dentist will ensure that your bite and overall feel of the mouth is right
